When combined with aqua affinity, it can make underwater mining much easier.minecraft respiration: For example, the same book may receive respiration and power enchantments, but the respiration enchantment is lost if the book is applied to anything but a helmet, and the power enchantment is lost if the book is applied to anything but a bow.

The enchantment extends the player's ability to breathe underwater by 15 seconds per the level. In minecraft players can keep their breath for 15 seconds with no effects or enchantments before diving into the water and then running out of air. Respiration ii gives the player 45 seconds underwater, while respiration iii gives them an entire minute submerged.
